Pest Alert!!

The Box Tree Moth and Caterpillar

Since early 2011, a devastating pest, the Box Tree Moth, originally from East Asia, has infiltrated the UK, posing a significant threat to the nation’s beloved Buxus plants. This invasive moth exclusively lays its eggs on Buxus plants, initiating a destructive cycle.

The emerging caterpillars then undergo five growth stages (instars), with the first three instars capable of decimating a Box Plant within one to two weeks.

Past infestations have left gardeners with struggling, skeleton-like plants, impacting the beauty of renowned gardens like The Royal and National Trust gardens, as well as those cultivated by enthusiastic gardeners across the country.
